I seems that Sunset, Sunrise and Seascape Paintings

have never been more popular.

There is something undeniably beautifull and enigmatic

about this kind of art.

Perhaps it's from some when people the sun worshipped as a life giving planet

or even a deity. 

Many Hindu's rise early in the morning to perform the Yogic, Surya namaskar in praise of the

rising sun. 

And our primitive ancestors would look at the setting sun and pray that it would

return the next day to provide warmth and sustenance.

Whatever the reason, I'm most of us do love to see the sunrise in the morning

 and set in the evening.

Especially when it's a sunrise over the ocean or sunset on the distant horizon of the sea.

Obviously, we don't see this unless we're by the sea but who would deny the the beauty and romance

of a rising or setting sun.

Those people who do manage to get up early enough to see the sunrise will agree that the rising sun can look awesome.

Especially in tropical countries. On a few occasions I've rented bungalow's on the beaches of tropical islands like Koh Samui, Thailand or overlooking the paddy fields of Ubud, Bali specifically to paint.  Getting up early to watch the sunrise or witnessing the spectacular sunsets is truly inspirational.

 Even here in the UK working as an artist, though I'm not obliged to get up early, I still enjoy doing so to watch the sunrise over the vale of Kent. I also sometimes enjoy driving early in the morning when the sun is just rising. Having said that, I do live in the country and I rarely need to endure rush hour traffic.

Sunrise, Sunset and Seascape paintings have an abstract quality about them. J.M.W. Turner's paintings for example could easily be considered semi-abstract paintings.
